Rewind, before we change.
Midgardians always have been so very careless. Not one bothered to notice the creature that moved between them. Dark and rather powerful. Loki had been chasing it out of curiosity. What would bring such an being to a worthless realm like Midgard?
He sauntered through the darkening park, passing humans with their dogs, noisy teenagers and their hideous melodies. Of course he had concealed himself, everything to escape Heimdall's all-seeing eyes.
The shadow seemed to move faster, intent on finding something, or someone.

It was exhausting to say the least. Which lead to distraction. Which was why she didn't sense the shade coming until she heard a warning shriek from inside her head.
The witch had to scramble to throw up her active wards, flinging her sudden panic into powering the visualised image of a sheild. It didn't help much, the shade bearing down on her screamed and slammed into them, flinging her back and onto the grass.

But still, rather surprising to encounter Midgardians practicing magic in the first place.
When she landed in the grass he finally stepped forward, a kind expression on his face as he crouched down next to her.
"Are you allright?"
no subject
She glanced at his face, handsome, green eyes and a concerned expression and that accent, was it English? It seemed genuine enough though her instincts screamed. The shade was still around. Of course it was.
"Yeah, mate, I'm fine." she said pushing herself up brushing down her jeans and looking around for any sign, keeping her awareness open as she could. A hand rose for the obsidian and silver necklace that hung from a short cord. Just a bit of will and she'd had enough power to handle a great deal or work... but of course it could be a waste.
And it'd keep her up till dawn.
"Sorry, did you see something?"
no subject
Loki looked at her, worried.
"You cannot handle this alone." His voice was full of worry and concern. Even though his mind wasn't. Actually, he wanted to know how this would play out. How she would weild her magic. To attract creatures like this...she probably wasn't a novice.
"I shall come to your aid."

"Never met a shade? Don't feel special. Most don't." She said calmly, head tilting. Odd turn of phrase... but then again knowing the type of people magic attracted...
"Appreciated." She said and with a moment of will she replenished her wards, a flicker of various types of force layered behind a veil. "You know what to do?"
no subject
"I think so." He straightened his back, the expression on his face calm and friendly. "I do not possess the skill to vanquish this creature. Yet, I know a spell that might seal it up for a while. At least, give you enought time to flee from it. You do look awfully tired."
no subject
"And leave it strike as some one who can't protect themselves?" She asked and shook her head, flexing her fingers. She was weary still but her stores of magic were replenished. It was enough for now...
"Trap it and slow it down, I'll deal with the vanquishing." Back turned to her, she rolled her eyes at the word. Who was this guy?
Sensing, she hummed a short few notes and felt the comforting presence of her Warden, a ghostly pale serpantine dragon, three meters long with a hair of horns cresting its head. He'd been with her since childhood, her long time friend and ally and guardian. Tired as she was, she could use the back up he would provide.
Looking over her shoulder at the man, she frowned. "Ready or what?"
no subject
"I will leave the vanquishing up to you," he said with a nod before he turned around as well, a sly grin appearing on his face for only a couple of seconds. He had to go for a basic spell, probably not even strong enough to seal the shadow, but at least slow it down a bit.
"Of course," he answered, smiling at her as if the situation wasn't a problem at all. After that he spread his fingers and muttered the spell softly.
For a moment the ground around the shadow started to move, as if there was something slithering under the grass. When Loki stretched his arms the snakes came forward, curling around the shadow and binding it.

As he turned away, she narrowed her eyes for a moment before casting her own. As the shadow slowed it was boxed in by symbols that appeared and vanished, building on his binding. Her hand on spirit next to her, she moved to the next spell and cast it, drawing a sigil in the air. Fire answered her call and appeared white hot around the shade and stabbed into its core like spears, the song of the elemental being like furious drums.
Another layer of magic followed, flickering blades of air that danced and cut, diving deep into the shades being with glowing purpose. There was silence and she shouted throwing her hands out and her spells expanded, tearing the shade apart, the fire elemental seeking to devour what peices remained.

He waited patiently until the shadow had been vanquished completely, his arms crossed, green eyes full of interest and a feint smile around his lips.
"Impressive," he said, the tone of his voice sincere while he adjusted his scarf. "Even I am not able to top such skill. No wonder that the creature had been seeking you out."
no subject
At the compliment she snorted shaking her head. "It was sloppy and clumsy. Not a prime example of evocation." That skill was why she was sought out, it was the power she had.
"But thank you. I'm glad for the help."
no subject
"Do not mention it," he replied. "It is good practice. Even though you did most of the work. Still, if beings like that seek you out..."
...'you might possess something I can use'

The smile was cute though.
"Yeah, it is. Hands on experience usually hits home a little faster."
Adjusting her bag, she studied him with out looking, her senses quietly observing. He seemed so normal. She shrugged in answer.
"Just a hedge witch." A hedge witch that could eat energy which made her an appetizing snack for the bigger breed of nasty beasties.
"I don't recognise you. You knew in town?"
no subject
A witch, how peculiar.
"I am still practicing the art of sorcery. I am afraid it is lacking said experience," he told her while he picked his gloves from the right pocket of his coat, slowly putting them on and adjusting them carefully.
He laughed at her second question.
"I have been here for quite a while but I am not one for social abilities, I am afraid."
Another smile. One of the charming type.

She watched him carefully, keeping her face friendly. That smile was a lovely thing, and he was... Well.
"No doubt, someone so clean cut coming from... Where?"
no subject
Behind the mask of friendliness and witty banter Loki watches this woman like a hawk would its prey.
"I have lived here for quite a while. And you?"
